Right now, it's a great way to go!
Personally, I am allergic to group travel. I have never enjoyed tours,
nor have I ever sought them out.
But right now Iran is special in this regard. For one thing, those who
want to travel to Iran are few and often have the same reasons for going.
Also, the authorities in smaller towns and cities have not seen many American
travelers in years. They are curious and suspicious. A tour group,
though more conspicuous than an individual traveler, still attracts much less
suspicion than an individual. A tour group is more controlled, of course,
by itinerary. This is normally the down side to travel in a group.
But in Iran, tourists in groups, because they are controlled, are
acceptable.
Iran is so diverse, so culturally rich and has so much history, it's a waste
to try to do it yourself, even if you are already an expert on Iran. Why
not spend your time seeing and enjoying what you want to, while a leader and a
guide handle the logistics?
The advantages of traveling in a group-
1) A knowledgeable leader who is already familiar with the
sites, history, culture, photography, and art.
2) A native guide who can act as a translator and interpreter
as well as giving you
the Iranian perspective as well as a personal knowledge of
Iran.
3) No hassle in finding hotels, transportation
and
food. Just sit back and take it all in.
4) The insights and interests of your fellow
travelers might
be enriching. You might even make
new friends!
5) Dare I say- it's cheaper? The more
people in the
group, the cheaper it is to go!
6) Safety in numbers!
Traveling in Iran is a unique experience right now because
it's only recently opened up. Because of the newness, there's a sense of
adventure which is fun to share. The groups I've traveled with in Iran
have been my best group travel experiences! I highly recommend
seeing this country before it changes. Plus, you'll be able to say you saw
it before McDonalds arrived!
