The small
village of Abadeh is located just southeast of Isfahan, in
Iran, of course. Rugs from Abadeh have for decades been known
for their central medallions and four corner medallions. The
Abadeh design is one of the few designs which has survived the
test of time virtually unchanged. Old rugs and new rugs alike
can be identified as being from Abadeh based merely on these
qualities. The lovely shades of blue and red are also part of
the tradition.
These rugs
are woven in the village on smaller looms often kept in the
living room or main bedroom. The women who weave these
usually take from one to two years to complete a rug of this
size. They say it just depends on how many children there are
to take care of and how many dishes there are to wash.
These
marvelous little rugs look great in any room of the house!
