| The area of Chahar Mahal Bakhtiari where
these rugs are woven is up in the rugged mountains. The
village women up there spend the long winters weaving
beautiful, fine rugs with rich colors. This area is famous
for the Garden Design rug in which the weaver incorporates
lozenges filled with flowers and trees. I say that if you're
going to weave all winter buried in the snow, you need a few
green thoughts and flowers to keep you going.
Bakhtiari rugs also come in medallion designs which are
also famous because of their simple designs and well-executed,
almost curvilinear elements.
By the way, if you want to sound super knowledgeable the
next time you're in a rug shop, learn to say the word
Bakhtiari- Bach-tee-ar-ee. It's easier than it looks!
